COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Shell companies have been exploring for and producing hydrocarbons for over a century. Today, Exploration & Production (EP) employs some 17,500 people and a further 10,000 contractors worldwide and has interests in ventures in 38 different countries. This is a technically challenging work environment characterised by research and the pursuit of new ways of working. It demands people who will thrive in a culture that encourages and rewards innovation, collaboration and the ability to learn from success as well as failure.
We have vacancies in The Sultanate of Oman for Senior Well Engineers having substantial experience (at least 10 years) in well construction and design and with a focus on high temperature and high pressure (HPHT) wells. We are offering an outstanding opportunity for successful and innovative senior professional well engineers to bring experience to this area of our Oman well engineering portfolio, in a dynamic and performance-focused organization. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is the major exploration and production company in the Sultanate. It accounts for about 90% of the country's crude-oil production and nearly all of its natural-gas supply. The first economic find of oil was made in 1962, and the first consignment of oil was exported in 1967.
Purpose
This is a key leadership role to ensure optimal management of an assigned rig and the rig-team in the execution and closeout phases of a range of High Pressure High Temperature exploration and/or development well programs. Typically a rig will conduct between 4 and 8 well projects in a year.
DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities :
On a day-to-day basis you will:
* Lead the rig team (2 office based staff plus Shell staff at the rigsite) in day to day well operations execution
* Have single point Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) responsibility for well operations. This means establishing and maintaining exemplary HSE management standards throughout your team (field and office-based)
* Efficiently develop and execute HPHT well programs, including work planning, application of "limit" principles, risk identification and mitigation
* Accept responsibility for receiving approved well designs from well design teams and completing the design phase with a detailed and optimized well program
* Coordinate all assigned rig activities, ensuring well-work activities are optimized, understood, planned, resourced and managed within agreed time and budget
* Report daily operations and integrate daily operations as required within the onshore organization
* Communicate with stakeholders (internal, and Contractors) to establish an efficient integrated project framework
* Motivate/coach your rig team to excel.
Special Challenges
You will need to be effective in mixed culture teams, sometimes with language challenges. You are expected to have and maintain a high level of expertise in emergency response and be able to lead an emergency response in stressful situations. Leading by example, being hands-on when required, but also able to delegate and co-ordinate effectively are essential personal traits. You will also need to be able to communicate with authority, and motivate others in sometimes difficult work conditions.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Requirements :
To be successful in your application you will need to:
* possess at least a higher education Diploma (eg. HND or equivalent), but preferably a Bachelors Degree or higher, in a technical or engineering subject
* have at least 10 years' experience in Well Engineering and of the EP business environment which must include more than 8 years field operations management as a Drilling Supervisor combined with office-based well planning and/or operations engineering experience of which at least 2 recent years have been for HPHT wells
* have a proven safety leadership record and familiarity with safety management techniques
* have practical experience in the application of drilling optimization techniques (eg. Deliver-the-Limit)
* have a strong business sense, combined with interpersonal, organizational, communication and facilitation skills. Your application will be given preference if you can demonstrate previous interfacing with, or some experience in, the subsurface disciplines (geology, reservoir engineering, petrophysics) and completions design/operations supervision. Expertise in Deliver-the-Limit (DtL) and Advanced Safety Leadership techniques are two key factors for success in the job.
Selected candidates will be encouraged to follow the Shell Group "Round 2" Distance Learning Programme with the aim of obtaining this qualification within two years.
